InStranet Ships Content Application Foundation Version 3.0

Adds Application Integration and Enhanced SDK For Partners

New York, November 19, 2002 – InStranet, Inc., provider of Content-Based Applications for the Enterprise, today announced the release of InStranet v3 Content Application Foundation (CAF). A new version of its flagship content infrastructure technology for enterprises and their partners, InStranet’s CAF offers built-in information exchange and transformation components, programming support with a new Java Bean interface, an enhanced software development kit (SDK), and portability support for multiple data bases and application servers.

According to the Forrester Report, "Enterprise Content Management Delusions" released in June of this year, end-users will begin to migrate toward specialized content applications that, among other elements, embed business process management in the software. Thus, the software will be dynamically configured and will reflect how the company integrates content into its business system.

"With the launch of our new Content Application Foundation, we are responding to the market need for a reusable, compact Java-based content management engine to be embedded into partner applications," said Frank Florence, SVP Corporate Development at InStranet. "We have designed this new version with higher integration, faster development, lower administration costs, and faster deployment, and we are excited by the joint customer opportunities offered by both our applications software and system integration partners."

InStranet’s solutions apply the metaphor of business intelligence (BI) to organizing content. Just as BI applications sift through data based on descriptive categories, non-technical business users need to access structured and unstructured documents based upon several levels of metadata, including content type, product, author, business unit, time, geography, and so on. InStranet v3 CAF uses a browser-based interface to give non-technical business users an intuitive framework for securely searching, retrieving, and distributing information that is organized based on these types of categories.

InStranet's XML-based document templating and workflow enables enterprises to fully support and manage company-wide, cross-functional business processes. Further, since InStranet is 100 percent browser-based, enterprises commonly use the software to extend their business processes outside the firewall to include key customers and partners.

With the introduction of InStranet’s v3 CAF, the company now provides a suite of tools called “Application Exchange” that enables enterprises to quickly and easily integrate InStranet with other infrastructure platforms, such as Document Management (DM), Business Intelligence (BI), and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). Application Exchange provides a flexible, configurable mechanism to enable InStranet v3 users to share business-critical information such as sales and marketing documents, users and corporate metadata. The platform supports the export, import, transformation and communication of information using industry standards such as Java, XML, XSL, HTTP and WebDAV. With Application Exchange, InStranet can "plug-and-play" into virtually any infrastructure environment.

As the business content needs of global companies expand, Application Exchange, along with a new enhanced SDK, make InStranet the next- generation choice of applications companies and system integrators who need to embed an enterprise class content & document management system into their offerings. Short time-to-market, built-in analytics, a compact footprint, innovative use of metadata, full globalization-localization capabilities and deep security form a compelling solution for partner companies.

The newly offered InStranet SDK provides transparent access to all Java objects, enabling developers to extend the application’s core functionality with their own Java classes. With this open access, developers can manipulate any object in the InStranet repository, including dimensions, documents, users, workflow, and document definitions, as well as the associations between them. Customization of the end-user experience is equally straightforward, with a complete set of JavaBeans and custom HTML tags that make even the most complex Web page a relatively simple task.
